Mississippi Student Loans
As Mississippi students prepare to graduate from high
school and step into a collegiate career, many are
wondering how they will fund their education. Thanks to
the Direct Loan Program, students can breathe a little
easier when comes to paying for college.
The Direct Loan Program is available to all students who
plan to attend an accredited school or university at
least-half time. Whether you intend on seeking a degree
at the University of Mississippi, Wesley College, or any
other college, a Direct Loan is available to help foot
the bill.
Backed by the United States Department of Education, the
Direct Loan Program is available to students with and
without financial need. To borrow money, students must
fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Additionally, Mississippi students who demonstrate
financial need may also be awarded a state or federal
grant when applying for their loan. In some cases, for
those who apply at the very beginning of the calendar
year may receive both types of grants.
Parents can also qualify through for a federal PLUS Loan
to assist with funding their child’s college tuition,
room and board and other associated fees. PLUS Loans do
require credit approval and, unlike the Direct Loans,
repayment begins within 60 days of the first release of
funds. Students can also consider apply for a loan
through a private lender. This option often helps to
cover educational expenses not paid for by grants,
scholarships or federally-backed loans.
